Day 2 of the 9th grade English Seminar. Students continued editing the footage filmed on Day 1 and preparing for the film festival. At the same time, preparations for another project also progressed.
The name of that project was “Mystery Skype.” The students only knew that they would be interacting online with an overseas group. The other party also didn’t know where we were from or who we were. The goal of the game was to use English as a common language and ask questions in order to guess the other group’s identity.
On the day of the event, with cameras on both sides turned off, our students nervously asked questions to the blank screen, such as, “What’s the temperature where you are?” Through the exchange of questions, they gradually figured out that they were playing with students from an overseas school that has strong ties with Aitoku Gakuen.
The other party was a 9th grade junior high class from the Dominican International School Taipei in Taiwan!
Once they discovered each other’s identities and the screens were turned on, they introduced their schools and had a question time. They asked each other about club activities and school life. It looked like both groups were having a lot of fun. Our students ended the online exchange with smiles, saying, “Let’s meet when we visit Taiwan for our school trip in two years!”
In the afternoon of the final day of the English Seminar, we held the “Aitoku Peace Film Awards!”
With “peace” as the theme, all four groups created videos that were about 2 to 3 minutes long and screened them in front of the judges, the principal, and the vice principal.
Each group performed a skit and, incorporating humor, conveyed messages that could serve as hints for “living in peace.”
Since all the works were well done, awards were presented to each group for “Best Short Film,” “Best English,” “Best Team Work,” and “Best Message.”
We are looking forward to hosting the “Aitoku Peace Film Awards” again in the future!

中３英語研修２日目。１日目で撮り終えた作品の編集作業と、発表の準備が続きます。同時に、もう一つのプロジェクトの準備も進めていきました。
そのプロジェクト名は、「ミステリー・スカイプ」。海外のある団体とオンラインで交流する、という情報だけしか生徒は知りません。相手も私たちがどこの国の誰なのかを知りません。
お互いが英語という共通言語を使って、質問をしあいながら、相手がどこの国にいるかを当てるゲーム、それが「ミステリー・スカイプ」です。
当日もドキドキしながら、オフの画面に向かって質問をしていきました。「そちらの気温は何度？」など、質問のやりとりをする中で、徐々にわかってきた相手の国。実は愛徳学園ととてもご縁のある海外の学校の生徒とゲームをしていたのです。
その相手とは、台湾・台北にある本校の交流校「Dominican International School Taipei」に通う中学３年生でした！
画面がオンになり、お互いの正体がわかってからは、学校紹介をし、質問タイム。部活や学校生活について、双方が質問をしあいました。その姿はとても楽しそうでした。２年後、修学旅行で台湾を訪れる際にお会いしましょう、と笑顔で挨拶をしてオンライン交流を終えました。
英語研修最終日の午後、「Aitoku Peace Film Awards」を開催しました！
「平和」をテーマに、全４グループが約２分～３分間の動画を制作し、審査員である校長と教頭先生の前で上映しました。
どのグループも寸劇を行い、ユーモアも交えながら、「平和で過ごす」ためのヒントとなるようなメッセージを表現していました。
全ての作品がよくできていたため、「Best Short Film」「Best English」「Best Team Work」「Best Message」賞がそれぞれのグループに授与されました。
